Select Skills U18 team started off the Hub City Midget Major
Tournament with a strong showing. Beating the Mass Mustangs 14-0. Mark
Ethrington (St. John's Prep) had four goals, Scottie Campbell (Andover) had
four goal, James Currier (St John's Prep) had three Goals, Andrew Irving
(Beverly) two Goals and Nate MacLaughlin (Beverly) had one. Anthony Selvitella
(St. Johns Prep) and Theo Woodbury (Cushing) combined for the shutout. The
U18's then took on Mass Attack Grey. Trailing in the second half 2-1 the U18's
Scored 3 Unanswered Goals for the victory. Goals were scored by Connor Irving
(Beverly), Nate MacLaughlin and Scottie Campbell had a pair. The Jr. Hurricanes
were the U18's final opponent in round robin play. With the score 1-1 half way
through the second half the U18's scored three unanswered goals to beat the
Hurricanes 4-1. Goals came from James Currier, Nate MacLaughlin, Nick Coccoluto
(Bishop Fenwick) and Johnny Lavaseur (Melrose).
The U18's entered the Playoffs as the second seed. With a
short bench their round one opponent were the Foxboro Stars. Two goals by
Connor Irving would be the difference as the U19's beat the Stars 2-0. Anthony
Slevitella pitched a shutout and both Matt McLelland (Reading) and Ean
Mendazune (St. John;s Prep) were solid on Defense. The Thrashers were the U18's
second round opponents. Nate MacLauglin and Connor Irving would provide a goal
a piece as the U18's would move past the thrashers 2-1, securing a spot in the
finals. Evan Leclerc (St. John's Prep) and Tyler Costello (Masco) were strong
in the back end. The U18's would face Boston Hockey in the Finals. A tight 1-1
game opened with 8 minutes remaining when Boston Hockey would score 3
unanswered goals to take the Victory. Nate MacLaughlin scored the loan goal for
the U18's.
This past weekend the 1st annual International Goalie Competition was held in Tewksbury, Mass. This was the first of 5 locations for the competition with the finals being held in Orlando Florida in July. We would like to congratulate our 00STARS-Elite goalie, Caroline Kukas who competed this weekend and took first place in the Pee Wee division. On Friday, some of our young SSH skaters came down to Fenway to watch the Univ of Vermont alumni game, which our own Skills Director Matt Sanders skated in. The historic ballpark was transformed into a pond hockey stadium for 2 weeks of NCAA College Hockey games. It was a beautiful day and a lot of fun.

The NHL's San Jose Sharks 2011 Draft Pick has made an immediate impact the to the Crimson's offensive power. He netter his 1st collegiate gola against Colgate and 2 more in a win over UNH. SSH Instructor Joe Whitney continues to prove his worth while he helps lead the Albany Devils to another win. The Albany Devils erased a four-goal deficit in the third period and Joe Whitney netted the game-winning goal at 3:31 to give the Devils a 5-4 win against the Norfolk Admirals Friday at Scope Arena.
